Draft Map Submission

Dear Irvine Councilmembers,

My name is Zachary Griggy and I am a recent summa cum laude graduate from UC Irvine, where I served as the student body’s Academic Affairs Vice President during the 2022-2023 academic year. I would like to submit a draft map for your consideration.

This map is a modification of Map 151 that makes three critical changes. First, it moves Rancho San Joaquin from District 4 to District 6, moving the Parkwest Apartments into a district with the UC Irvine Campus. This satisfies testimony from students and the UC Irvine student government calling on the council to include Parkwest in District 6 because the apartment community, one of the few sources of relatively affordable housing near campus, is home to a large number of students.

Second, to balance the population between Districts 4 and 6, a portion of the Irvine Business Complex is moved into District 4, including apartments of IBC east of Jamboree and all portions of IBC in the Tustin Unified School District.

Third, the third change occurs near I-5 in Low Peters Canyon where I expand District 3 slightly to Bryan Ave to encompass Beckman High School and nearby apartments. The boundary change moves the District 3 boundary to follow a major road (Bryan Ave), better aligning with Fair MAPS Act Criteria.

I hope you will consider this map and look forward to the rest of the process.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Zachary R. Griggy
